Mazu Belief and Customs on UNESCO's Representative List

On September 30, 2009, Mazu belief and customs, initiated by the Meizhou Mazu Ancestral Temple and co-nominated with Mazu temples worldwide, were inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

World Festival and Event City

In October 2011, Meizhou Island was named a World Festival and Event City in the under-100,000 population category, the first city in China to receive the distinction.
